Bagamoyo was the most important trading entry port of the east central coast of Africa in the late 19th century. Bagamoyo, which means “lay down your heart” lies 75kms north of Dar Es Salaam. Bagamoyo was the starting point of the slave caravan routes and also the terminus of the white missionaries thus making it the oldest town in Tanzania.
